Where Hurdlr is the better choice
Automatic mileage. Hurdlr’s Premium plan detects drives on its own, and its free tier tracks them semi-automatically. If you drive for a living, a log that fills itself is worth a lot, and BrassWell’s log is one you add trips to.
Price and a free tier. Premium at $9.99 a month (about $100 a year) is cheaper than either BrassWell plan, and the free tier lets you start without paying anything.
Gig platforms. Hurdlr connects to Uber, Square, Stripe and PayPal as well as banks, which suits drivers and sellers with several income streams.
Where BrassWell is the better choice
A tax number you can check. BrassWell estimates self-employment and income tax on the 2026 brackets, stacked on top of any W-2 wages, with your state rate, and turns it into a set-aside percentage, a quarterly payment and a reminder before each date. Our quarterly tax calculator runs the same math in public, so you can see exactly how the figure is made.
Invoicing on the base plan. Core includes five invoices a month with print-ready PDFs and your own payment link; Hurdlr reserves invoicing for Pro.
Uneven-income planning. Budgets, goals and the Financial Freedom plan, for deciding what a good month lets you spend. And an iPad app.
A year of each, in dollars
Hurdlr Premium is about $100 a year; BrassWell Core is $199 and Pro is $299. If automatic mileage is the main thing you need, Hurdlr is the cheaper answer. If you also invoice clients and want the tax estimate to account for your wages and your state, compare BrassWell Core with Hurdlr Pro, which adds invoicing.
Switching from Hurdlr
Export your income, expenses and mileage from Hurdlr’s reports as CSV files. BrassWell imports a CSV of income and expenses, matches the columns to your file’s headers, and skips likely duplicates, so a year of history comes across in one sitting. Keep the old account until your first BrassWell month looks right, and download every receipt image first: receipts are what you need if a deduction is ever questioned, and they are the part most often lost in a move.
Questions, answered
Is BrassWell a good Hurdlr alternative?
Yes for self-employed people who invoice clients and want a tax estimate built on the 2026 brackets, their W-2 wages and their state. Hurdlr is the better fit for drivers who want automatic mileage, or anyone who wants a free tier.
How much does Hurdlr cost?
Hurdlr’s pricing page shows plan names without prices. Its App Store listing and help center give Premium at $9.99 a month or about $100 a year, alongside a free tier; invoicing is on the separate Pro plan.
Does BrassWell track mileage automatically?
BrassWell Pro keeps an IRS-ready mileage log of the trips you add, and applies the 2026 mid-year IRS rate change to each trip by its date. Hurdlr Premium detects drives automatically.
Which is better for quarterly taxes, Hurdlr or BrassWell?
Both show a running tax estimate. BrassWell’s uses the 2026 federal brackets, the standard deduction, the QBI deduction, any W-2 wages and your state rate, and you can check its math with the free calculator on this site.
